REGIONAL EVENTS
The Africa Malaria Day regional event took place in Lusaka, Zambia on 25 April 2005, and featured a cycle race, a march, speeches by local, national and international dignitaries, and music and entertainment. Pre-Africa Malaria Day activities began on 7 April and included a media sensitization workshop, an advertising campaign, TV and radio spots and call-in programmes, an exhibition at the Lusaka Museum, the official opening of the refurbished National Malaria Control Centre, and a musical Gala Night (24 April) as well as community activities such as net re-treatment events and school and orphanage visits.

On April 11 David Robertson started his Drive Against Malaria (DAM) in Nairobi, flagged off by the Kenyan Minister of Health Charity Kaluki Ngilu.
Together with his partner, the Dutch TV presenter Julia Samuel, he distributed mosquito nets during the DAM/AMD to small communities and villages along the way.
The Drive Against Malaria passed through Arusha, Tanzania (April 12) – Komodoa (April 14) - Dodoma (April 15) – Mtera (April 16) - Iringa (April 17) and Mbeya. They crossed the border to Malawi at Wwaya on April 18 and continued south to the capital Lilongwe. On April 21/22 they crossed border to Zambia and met the country team comprising RBM partners and the National Malaria Control Programme who joined the convoy. Robertson arrived in Lusaka on Africa Malaria Day (April 25 ) and he handed over mosquito nets to the Zambian President, Levy Patrick Mwanawasa.
DAM was an initiative of David Robertson - a Briton who was disabled in a road accident some years ago, and who has spent the last few years raising awareness about malaria by driving across Africa delivering mosquito nets to remote communities and conveying the malaria message to governments and leaders across the globe.
The drive, sponsored by Roll Back Malaria Partner ExxonMobil, with support from UNICEF, WHO and PSI, engaged media attention for this year's Africa Malaria Day and announced a major Africa-wide drive in 2006.
